The chart area contains a region of the chart or the entire chart if the chart fits in the chart area. The chart data can be shown with a different data view. The data views used in this module are: Line, Area, Bars and Candles. You can change the current data view directly from the chart using the right click on the chart area. This will open a box from where you can choose a data view as it's shown in the picture on the right. The resolution can also be changed by choosing a resolution from the "Resolutions" section. You have seven options for this: Ticks, Volume, Intraday, Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly. |

The "Data views" used in the "Spread Charts" module are: Line, Area, Bars and Candles. You can change the current data view directly from the chart using the right click on the chart area. This will open a box from where you can choose a data view as it's shown in the figure below.
A "bar" chart shows more data then a line chart. The open, high, low and close price for a chart point are shown simultaneously on a bar chart. When a chart point is created, the first line that is drawn is the open price. Subsequent price movement will produce the high and the low price for the chart point. The final price for the chart point is close price.

A "candle" chart shows the same information as a bar chart: open, low, high and close price.
The change in price is more evident on this type of chart because the difference between the open
and close is shown in a graphical way. In the following example, the O

| By clicking on "Edit Bar" option, the "Edit Bar" dialog (see the figure on the right) appears. In this dialog box the user can set the "Open", "High", "Low" and "Close" prices for the bar which was selected. The "Delete Bar" option can delete a bar from the chart. These options affect the chart until a new reload is done. |
|
| If the user thinks that a bar or candle represents bad data, he can use the "Report bad bar" option, which sends a warning to the techical support automatically. Before sending the warning, the "Report Bad Bar" dialog box (see the figure in the right) appears, which requests the user to confirm it. |

When you want to create a new chart where you don't specify the trading month, you can use the continuation options from the "New Chart" dialog box. If you choose the "No continuation" option the chart will represent just the front month. The "Adjusted with # days" option will allow you to specify when to transition to the next trading month. For example, if you choose "Adjust with 2 days" and we know that ESU7 expired September 30th, so at that moment ESZ7 became the front month. We use the data for ESU7 until September 28th and then transition to ESZ7. "By month" means that the chart will be composed only from the selected calendar month. "Equalize closes" applies a "smoothing" algorithms between data from two different contracts so the transition is not so severe. |

To draw a Fibonacci retracement, first make sure the tool button is selected, then click somewhere in the chart and a point will be placed there. Keep the mouse button pressed and move the cursor on the chart. A line, parallel with the time coordinate, will appear. You can change the direction of the line by moving the cursor. If you release the mouse button the line will remain on the chart and another line attached on the mouse will appear. This line is parallel with the first line. If you click somewhere on the chart, this line will be placed there. Another 3 lines will be drawn in the middle. The middle line is at 50% between the first two lines. The upper line is 12% higher than the middle line and the lower line is 12% less.
To set some properties for the Fibonacci retracement just click on it. The Fibonacci retracement will appear as selected. You can change the dimensions and placement of the Fibonacci retracement by clicking on one of the 4 points that appear on the Fibonacci retracement and moving that point somewhere on the chart. If you want to change the other properties of the Fibonacci retracement do a right click on the tool. The "Fibonacci Properties" dialog will appear on the screen. The properties dialog contains two tabs: "Main Lines" and "Middle Lines". The "Main Lines" refers to the two main lines of Fibonacci retracement and the "Middle Lines" refers to the three lines that are between these two.

The second sub-menu in "Charts Toolbar" is "Overlay Charts" and its components are represented in the figure below.

Edit Overlay Synchronization
If you click this option the "Edit Overlay Chart Synchronization Type" dialog appears. See the figure below.
|
In this dialog box, if the first option ("Use the primary scale for the overlay") is selected, the overlay chart and the primary chart share the same timescale. The "Start overlay from primary index" displays the overlay charts points starting at a certain index on the primary chart points vector. The third option ("Adjust the year of the overlay to match the primary timescale") overlay a chart matching: day/month of both charts points. For E.g. primary chart ECM7 and overlay ECM5, then if primary point is 6/24/2007 the overlay point will be 6/24/2005. The last option is "Adjust the weeks of the overlay to match the primary timescale" match the trading weeks of both contracts.
You can "Use interpolation" whether you select "Adjust the year of the overlay to match the primary timescale" or "Adjust the weeks of the overlay to match the primary timescale". Interpolation will synthesize chart data in the overlay for dates on the primary chart that had no trading activity in the ovrlay time series. For example, if today's date in the ovrlay year was a Saturday, there would be no overlay data to mact with. The interpolation would take the avaerage of the previous Friday's prices and the following Monday's prices to synthesize a price for the overlay.
Remove Main Overlay
This option removes the main overlay chart. See the pictures below.

Remove All Overlay Charts

"Ticks" - displays the trades for a certain contract. It has 5 default resolutions: 1 Tick, 5 Ticks, 10 Ticks, 20 Ticks and 100 Ticks. Custom tick resolutions can be set from the New Chart dialog. |
|
|
"Volume" - displays the trades by volume (number of contracts traded) for a certain contract. It has 3 default resolutions: Volume 1, Volume 10 and Volume 100. Custom volume resolutions can be set from the New Chart Dialog. |

The first figure below represents a part of the RZ7 chart using 5 Ticks resolution. The second figure represents a part of the RZ7 chart with 10 Ticks resolution.

If the "Print" option from the "Charts Toolbar" is pressed a dialog with three tabs will open. From "Appearance" you can choose the color and the quality of the printing.

In the "Charts" frame the user can use "Comma shortcuts" for changing chart resolutions. After each shortcut, the user should press the <Enter> key to change the chart. The "Comma shortcuts" are the following:
| ,D | Daily chart |
| ,W | Weekly chart |
| ,M | Monthly chart |
| ,Q | Quaterly chart |
| ,In | Intraday chart, where "n" is the number of minutes per bar/candle |
| ,T | Tick chart |
| ,Tn | Constant Tick chart, where "n" is the number of ticks per bar/candle |
| ,Vn | Volume chart, where "n" is the number of contracts per bar/candle |
For example:
For example, to change from the current resolution to a 5 minute chart, the user will type: ,I5<Enter>. Once the chart is an Intraday chart, the user can change to different minutely resolutions simply by typing: , plus the number of minutes per bar plus <Enter>. For example, if he wants to change his chart to a 3 minute chart, he will type: ,3<Enter>. If he next wants to change to a Constant Tick chart of 5 ticks per bar/candle, he will type: ,T5<Enter>. If he subsequently wants to change to a Constant Tick chart of 10 ticks, he will type: ,10<Enter>.
In the first screenshot below, you can see a Daily chart for ESZ07. If you press the ,M<Enter> "Comma shortcut", the second chart will appear, which will be a Monthly chart.

If you next want to change to a Constant Tick chart of 5 ticks per bar/candle, type: ,T5<Enter>. After these, the following chart will appear:
